one of my cosplans for next year is rika seto of d4dj fame!

you may wonder... what does she have to do with thongs? my answer to you: nothing..........

as shown in her chibi render she has a string bikini under her shorts where the bows poke out above her hips. cute! 

most cosplayers would go online or in-store to get a pair of the bottoms.....thus where my stubbornness lies...... i DONT WAnt TO! UGH!1! 

during summer, they are impossible to source. during winter, i dont want to spend money on annoying things. and a regular bikini bottom? physically doesn't do that.

what is rika really wearing...?

a g-string.

which means.... I need a g-string bikini! but as i said........ I DONT WANNA BUY ONE EuHGHhh

i had to brainstorm for a long time on how to actually get started. there are many many ways to make a bikini bottom, from scratch or altering existing panties or even crochet. i wanted a path with the least amount of resistance although i dont think i achieved that..

after learning how g-strings are actually made from this super cool tutorial by anastasia, i settled on a method of using some old beat up bikini shaped panties and pretending im making a g string. 

since im not doing from scratch, i started out by cutting the panties in a way it'd seem like i had done the first couple steps from anastasia's tutorial.

i snipped the hip elastic at the front, then cut the entire back into one strip that was roughly the width of the crotch part thing

from my understanding, the way the g-string of the g-string is made is by hemming one side all the way down, then hemming the other side until reaching the end of the "triangle", then encasing the first string piece in the other to create one long cohesive piece. (confused? just watch the video bro...)

i created a weirdly shaped snake! i folded in the back piece to make it thinner and sewed the tube shut on the sides.

now the base was done! but how.....how would i get the sides to tie like rika's bikini? a lot of tutorials for diy g-strings just use one elastic around the hips. i wasn't sure how i'd get the clean look i wanted if i just sewed the strings onto the panties....

i scoured Amazon microbikinis for inspiration until i made a horrible revelation.... hardware!

i got to thinking. i dont own that much hardware besides soft jewelry hardware and big industrial chains and rings for edgy stuff. 

i do however.... own a lot of cheap bras that don't flatter me lol. i had to say goodbye to one of them that had black hardware... and i was off to the races. 

i put the o-rings from the bra on the front of the panties, then found a large plastic o-ring in a drawer that i used for the g-string part.

 

and yes.. these stitches look like shit too

then i could finally add my bikini strings that i had to cut open my pajama pants for!

talk about resourceful!?!!?

im honestly surprised these turned out looking like bikini bottoms pretty well..!

didn't tie them that well for the pic, but u want them to look even..? SUE ME!

in the end, it's not about what looks pretty but what works, right~?

i know my oshi Shu Itsuki would have a field day about my sewing though...
